The program is focusing on training the participants, mainly from the AsiaPacific region, to have the solid theoretical knowledge and systematic expertise in the space technology applications. Participants are expected to have the ability of conducting the scientific research, exploring the applications or pursuing the professional careers in the related fields independently.
Participants are expected to have a good grasp and understanding of new technology and development in space science technology and applications. Participants are expected to finish the dissertation which is having the high practicability and application prospect.
On the basis of the regulations for core disciplines in the Space Science and Technology Education Center－Curriculum (A/AC. 105.649) issued by UN in 1996, the main directions are as follows:
(1). Remote Sensing and Geo-information System (RS & GIS)
(2). Satellite Communications (SATCOM)
(3). Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)
(4). Basic Space Science and Technology (Micro-Satellite Technology)
The academic duration is 3 to 4 years in accordance with the Regulations on Training and Management of International Postgraduates Formulated by Graduate School of Beihang University.
Procedures and Requirements
There are four stages for doctoral program: Formulation of an Individual Training Plan (Stage One), Course Study (Stage Two), Dissertation Research (Stage Three), and Dissertation Defense.
To ensure the quality of study, each participant will be assigned one tutor from Beihang University. In case of need, tutors from other institutes can be assigned either. Tutors are responsible for helping and supervising the participants on making the dissertation plan, finishing the dissertation proposal, conducting the scientific research and writing dissertation, etc.
Stage Ⅰ: Formulation of an Individual Training Plan
The training plan consists of two parts: the Course Study Training Plan and the Research Project Training Plan. Under the guidance of tutors, participants are required to submit two plans within 3 month after registration. Participants are encouraged to select the interdisciplinary research projects and/or projects which are having the potential benefits to home countries.Participants select courses with the guidance of his/ her supervisor.
Stage Ⅱ: Course Study
For international doctoral degree candidates, the minimum requirement for course credits is 13 and is as follows.
Stage Ⅲ: Dissertation Research
Under the guidance of tutors, participants are expected to select their research topics closely related to the practical space technology and its application projects in the home countries.
Stage Ⅳ: Dissertation Defense
The requirements for dissertation defense and degree conferral for the participants are the same as those for Chinese postgraduates in accordance with the Temporary Ordinance of Beihang University on Academic Degree Conferment. The examination and approval materials and resolution should be in Chinese written and archived. The abstract of each dissertation should be written in both Chinese and English. Either Chinese or English can be used in the dissertation defense.
Participants are encouraged to conduct research after register. The Literature Survey and Dissertation Proposal are required to be finished 12 months before application for doctoral degree dissertation.
Termination of Study
Participants will be terminated from the training program if any of the following cases occurs:
(1) The participant fails to complete the dissertation proposal or fails to pass the second dissertation proposal;
(2) The participant fails in the midterm assessment;
(3) The participant applies for the termination of study approved by the tutor of Beihang University;
(4) The participant fails to meet other requirements of Beihang University.
